Meta to Label AI-Generated Images on Platforms Ahead of 2024 Elections

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has announced plans to identify and label AI-generated images shared on its platforms. The move aims to address concerns regarding the potential dissemination of false information during the upcoming 2024 elections. The company will begin adding labels to images created by third-party AI tools like Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Adobe, Midjourney, and Shutterstock. Meta is also working on implementing common technical standards with leading AI tool developers to identify AI-generated images. The labels will be applied across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads in multiple languages. However, the new markers will not be included in AI-generated videos and audio content.
